Sure there are a million podcasts out there with people doing similar things that we are. So why are we doing this?
Because we are not those people. We are us. And we can do whatever the hell we want.
Sample list of things we want to accomplish with this podcast:
"Community", "Communication", "Culture", "Expression". All these words describe the basic human need and desire to connect on some level with other humans. Historically music has played an important role in developing connections with humans in these different aspects of society. The industrial revolution marked the beginning of a growing sense of isolation; a sentiment that has only increased with the passing years. Whether music has been affected adversely by this growing sense of isolation is arguable, but what does seem to be beyond argument is the fact that music's function in fostering community, communication, and culture has been diminished by the growing demand of music to yield large profit margins. Thus, it is one of our hopes that this podcast will act as only one of many agents geared in overcoming this sense of isolation, while using music as the main vehicle in developing thoughtful and responsible communities, cultures and communication.
We hope to act as a counter weight to the stagnate mainstream radio and tv music stations, by providing a diversity in musical genres and artists. This does not work one way--from us to you. Rather we hope to share with you new music and musicians and also hear from you guys listening of artists and music that relate to specific themes explored in our podcasts. The podcasts will not be a random selection of tracks that we like, but instead the playlists will be carefully crafted around specific themes based on moods, settings, social-philosophical ideas, regions, etc. What would any podcast be if it didn't share with those out there listening of upcoming events. We will be talking about events we will be attending as well as events we recommend checking out. This will not be limited strictly to music events—though they will be heavily concentrated that way—but, rather it will include art shows, film festivals, etc.
